This seminar featuring Andrea Wilkerson, Senior Lighting Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
Andrea will discuss terms commonly used in the lighting industry such as circadian lighting and melanopic lighting and associated metrics. Key research results to keep in mind when designing lighting for more than visual responses will be presented, along some recent simulation-based research and field research results.
Learning Objectives:
1. Differentiate between melatonin and melanopsin and how they related to new light and health metrics
2. Identify different factors that influence physiological response to light
3. Discuss how lighting can support circadian rhythms in different
environments
4. Describe how people respond differently to lighting
About the Speaker:
Andrea Wilkerson is a Senior Lighting Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, focusing on the evaluation of emerging lighting technology in realistic settings. She earned her doctorate from Penn State and her BS and MAE from the University of Nebraska in the respective architectural engineering programs. Andrea serves as an Associate Editor of LEUKOS (journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society) and as President of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Education Trust Board of Directors. She also serves on the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) Exam committee and the Oregon State University School of Civil and Construction Engineering Industry Advisory Board.
