Noteworthy features of this fugue:
→ this fugue focuses a lot on the three standard permutations of the subject:
→ the inversion (highlighted in blue; first one at 0:52)
→ the retrograde (highlighted in lilac; first one at 1:35)
→ the retrograde inversion (highlighted in green; first one at 1:33)
→ the title is inspired by the multiple mirror and double mirror images within a kaleidoscope
→ there are many stretto sections interspersed in the fugue:
→ 1:05 (with two inversions and one subject in its original form)
→ 1:26 (with two original forms and one inversion)
→ 1:33 (with two retrograde inversions and one normal retrograde)
→ 1:55 (with two retrograde inversions)
→ 2:00 (with one retrograde and two retrograde inversions)
→ 2:15 (with all four versions of the subject)
The fugue has 3 parts and is written for one player.
