The Nkuhuma male lion known as Blondie came from the north (possibly Ngala Reserve) together with his brother Dozie and the Nkuhuma lionesses. The first sightings of them was at Djuma in late 2006. Blondie was killed by the infamous Mapogo lion coalition on or around December 9, 2007, in the Sabi Sands region better known as Djuma.
The killing was part of the Mapogo coalition's brutal takeover of territories, during which they killed an estimated 90 to over 100 other lions.
Details of the Attack:
The Conflict: Blondie and his brother, Dozie, were the dominant males of the Nkuhuma pride. They were attacked by the Mapogo coalition, which consisted of six males (often referred to as a "gang" or "brutal alliance").
The Killing: During the fight, the Mapogos defeated the Nkuhuma males. While Dozie was forced to flee to the Manyeleti area, Blondie was killed.
Brutality: Reports indicate the Mapogos did not just kill Blondie but also mutilated his body and, in a display of their typical ferocity, ate him.
Aftermath: Following the death of Blondie, the Mapogos took over the territory and one part of the Nkuhuma pride, with many of the pride's cubs also being killed.
