Now we play Matsunaga’s stage. Mitsuhide lost Nobunaga’s helmet after falling off a cliff at Yamazaki and somehow ending up at this non-descript location. Which was...also somehow along the way from Odawara to Oshu when we played it in Kojuro’s story. Huh... Probably best not to think about that.

Mitsuhide just kind of completely breaks down here. And Matsunaga just finds it all amusing. During their fight, Mitsuhide calls himself a “kumquat” affectionately when calling out to Nobunaga. This is REALLY damn awkward if you aren’t familiar with the fact that Nobunaga called him that historically as an insult. Just comes out of nowhere. I translated it as “reaper” instead, since it fit for that particular line and doubled as a Devil Kings reference.

Lots of cutscenes this stage. There’s a flashback with Nobunaga where he talks about the “sea of the heavens” which is really esoteric and forced just so he can use the kanji for heaven and sea, which can be read as “ten” and “kai” so Mitsuhide can come up with the name Tenkai at the end. I didn’t write that scene too literally, you really can’t with JP Nobunaga or you’ll just end up with some gibberish nobody but the most fervent of Japanophiles will understand. JP Nobunaga also talks so damn slow I had to add some adjectives to several of his statements so the text can be read at a closer speed to how he talks. People can praise his VA all they want, but he’s a pain in the ass to listen to in this game.

Alright, and with that we just have Hideaki left. Oh boy... How long is it gonna take me to get the motivation for THAT story?
