Entering the Great Basin | Rock Springs to Salt Lake City

Описание: In October 2023, we packed up the car and drove west to Great Basin National Park to see an annular solar eclipse.

We weren’t filming for YouTube. We weren’t building a series. We were just going.

The trip lasted two weeks — long stretches of interstate, quiet mornings, and wide-open country. Not every day had a headline moment. Some days were simply about entering a new landscape and letting it unfold.

In this episode, we leave Rock Springs, Wyoming and continue west toward Salt Lake City — crossing the Red Desert, stopping at Echo Canyon to watch a freight train wind through layered red rock, and driving the stretch of highway sometimes called the “Highway to Heaven.”

By afternoon, we arrive in Utah and head straight to Great Salt Lake State Park. Salt crunches under our feet. The air smells faintly mineral. Nefertiti dances along the shoreline while I wander with the camera, drawn to the textures and haze of this otherworldly place.

Three hours of driving becomes something much larger.

This is our first real step into the Great Basin — and it already feels vast.
