In a significant shift for Assam’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections, three-time Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal from Goalpara West formally joined Raijor Dal on Monday. Welcomed by party president Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati, Mandal cited his affinity for the party’s left-leaning ideology and the "sufficient space" provided by Gogoi’s leadership as his primary reasons for the move. While clarifying he held no grievances against Congress, Mandal emphasized that Raijor Dal offers a better platform to serve his region. This development doubles Raijor Dal’s presence in the Assembly, with Gogoi further announcing that Baghbor MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed is set to join on Tuesday as part of a strategy to secure 15 seats in the upcoming polls.
