With a class A 2-6-6-4 lead by a Y6B 2-8-8-2 helper and another Y6B pusher on the rear this N&W coal train is representative of consists that regularly departed eastbound out of Roanoke Virginia in the 1950's. Here this operation is emulated in miniature at the HO scale North Shore Model Railroad Club layout in Wakefield Massachusetts.

The leading Y6B is a BLI Paragon 2 model, followed by a BLI Paragon class A, with the pusher being a PCM Y6B. Astute observers will notice that the "chuff" sounds on the class A are non-functional at the moment. The train is only 38 cars not counting the caboose and auxiliary water tender, though I have 12 more on the way. It is composed of a mix of Bowser Fishbelly hoppers and BLI H2A hoppers with three Bowser Virginian GLa hoppers thrown in.
