Exports are an important economic parameter and engine for the growth. Government of India too has time and again granted incentives and formulated support schemes / programs for the exporting community.
India’s leading export incentive schemes were questioned before the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the MEIS, EPCG etc. were found violative of global trade norms. This required the Government to rethink on its export incentive strategy.
The Government on August 17, 2021 announced the (much awaited and WTO compliant) incentive rates for the scheme for Remission of Duties & Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP), which was effective January 1, 2021. Quite expectedly, there has been an uproar amongst the exporter community, given the exclusions sectors, and the announced rates being largely less than industry expectations. Interestingly, with new Foreign Trade Policy around the corner, there are indications that several incentive schemes are being re-examined for compatibility with WTO norms.
In this backdrop, Dhruva Advisors had a webinar on “Export Incentives – What next for Indian Exporters” which aimed to provide crucial analysis of the RoDTEP scheme, insights on other incentive schemes available to exporters, and deliberate as to what lies ahead for exporters in the present environment.
