You will never guess the secret ingredient in this Soy Glazed Chicken Rice Bowl… Coca-Cola!
It might sound surprising, but Coca-Cola is actually used in many Asian dishes (hello, famous Coke chicken wings). Its caramel sweetness and subtle zing melt down into a sticky, glossy glaze that balances the savory soy and oyster sauce perfectly. Trust me — it works.
Ingredients
2 chicken breasts, boneless
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3.5 tablespoons oyster sauce
A pinch of black pepper
1 can Coca-Cola (12 fl oz)
Sesame seeds, for garnish
Green onions, sliced, for garnish
This is how I made it
Add chicken to a bowl with soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and lots of garlic. Massage well and let it marinate for 5 minutes (longer if you have time).
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil. Add the chicken and pan-fry for 4–5 minutes, until browned and smelling amazing.
Pour in the Coca-Cola. Cover and let it cook for 7–8 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce and turn glossy.
Optional: Uncover and cook for another 1–2 minutes if you like a thicker glaze.
Serve the chicken over rice, spoon that sticky sauce over the top, and finish with green onions and sesame seeds.
This bowl is super flexible. Add steamed veggies, swap the rice for jasmine or brown rice, or even try it with tofu or shrimp. Adjust sweetness or saltiness to match your taste.
This is one of those meals that tastes way fancier than it is — and it comes together so fast.
Thank you so much for being here and cooking along with me 💛
You’ve gotta make this. See you tomorrow!
