I use several "hacks" when setting up my home theater, and "Reflected Sound" is absolutely worth addressing... Vv Click "SHOW MORE" vV
"The List", subwoofers that are dramatically deeper, powerful, and SATISFYING, with a much flatter response than typical subs: http://www.subwoofer101.com/best-subw...

This series is about short, easily digestible "hacks" that allow you to get more out of your current setup.
Here is the link to the Bite-sized Bass Hacks playlist (Distance Hack, Gain Hack, etc...): • Bite-sized Bass Hacks
Despite my poor explanation of the first reflection and absolutely terrible camera work, the bottom line is that too many reflective surfaces cause more of an echo in the room, which muddies the sound.
Instead of 1 true sound, you get 1 sound plus several poorly copied and slightly delayed sounds, giving you more of a mush than clear audio.
Along those lines, I'm not a fan of up-firing Atmos speakers. I'd rather use a direct sound approach, and I really like the Elevation speakers: https://sub101.link/Elevation (affiliate link)
While you don't necessarily want a totally inert (dead) room, a highly reflective room is likely going to have a negative impact.
When a sound is reflected, it loses it's clarity. Some surfaces reflect better than others, but it's not as good and "clean" as the sound coming directly from the speaker.
This is MUCH more noticeable at higher frequencies. You can easily get away with aiming a subwoofer at the floor, but probably not so much mids and tweeters.
Absorbent materials are a good way to go. Curtains, the heavier the better, pleated rather than flat, felt rather than plastic. Think of it as trapping a little excess sound. Something like this: https://amzn.to/2NehCpV
A thick shag carpet would be better than a thin berber, but you have to be conscious of personal style. A thick carpet pad is good too, not just for acoustics.
If you have a hard floor, something like this could go a long way to improving the tone of your room: https://amzn.to/2tKnoHq
If you really want to go deep into room treatments, you can check out these acoustic panels as well: https://amzn.to/2lJEp04
Personally, I'd rather "hide" my acoustic treatments in plain sight using things normally found in a living room, like curtains and rugs. Along that line, I really like the concept of these panels rather than plain grey foam: https://amzn.to/2lJ76Kz
Keep in mind that when you add new treatments to the room, it's a good idea to run room correction again, if you have it.
Stay tuned for more on the RV project!

LG 4K 3D that I replaced previous Vizio with a Square Trade type warranty. Love the LG, some issues aside. Going through Amazon means you can get a decently priced 5 year warranty (strongly recommend for TV's and AVR's)
