This was a short VFR flight from Gloucester Airport over to Kemble Airport, flown in the Skyranger Nynja.
Conditions looked good on paper with excellent visibility, but the flight turned out to be more turbulent than expected — a good reminder of how lively things can be in lighter aircraft.
This flight was also a chance to properly test some of my new DJI camera and audio setup in real-world GA conditions, rather than in perfectly smooth air.
On final approach everything felt stable, with CRAP and FADS checks complete, but a gust in the flare pushed the aircraft off the centreline. With a slight balance issue and gusting crosswind, it needed quite a lot of aileron to keep the aircraft tracking the runway.
I did consider a go-around, but with Kemble’s runway width and length available, and with the aircraft remaining under control, I was comfortable continuing the landing and using the available runway.
Flights like this are a great learning opportunity — not every landing is perfect, especially when you’re still building time and consistency on a new aircraft type.
I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts:
Would you have continued the landing, or elected to go around in this situation?
