The Ilish, also known as The Ilisha, Hilsa, Hilsa Herring or Hilsa Shad, is a very popular and sought after food fish in the Indian states of west Bengal , Assam , Odisha, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Hilsa is national fish of Bangladesh. It is an oily fish rich in omega -3 fatty acids.
The best weight of Hilsa is more than 1000 gm.
It is said that people can cook Ilish in more than 50 ways. It can be cooked in very little oil since the fish is very oily.
This recipe is similar to famous “ Ilish er Tel Jhol “ ( runny and oily gravy ) with little variation from traditional one. This curry requires a few ingredients and less effort but yields a very tasty and delicious dish.
