I just wanted to share what I did when I removed my 3rd row seat and replaced it with a level platform. The place where the 3rd row seat originally from is now a storage area for my camping gear or other smaller things I don't usually use. It's quite easy to open even with my other things on top of the platform. I can also remove the platform easily if I need more room.
I hope this will help you get some idea and make something for your 4runner with 3rd row seat.
