Extended Day-Hike Gear-List

Описание: This is a look at the gear I often take with me on extended day hikes (hikes beyond 6 hours). Although some of the items mentioned are lightweight, this set-up is NOT entirely focused on being ultralight. It attempts to be a robust kit that will be adequate for my needs throughout the day while adding extra items that can be used in case of emergency, or if I am forced to stay out overnight for any reason. Weights of items are listed below, and as always questions, comments, and likes are appreciated.

P.S. I am considering a scenario in which I would test out this gear in the field as it would let me know if this kit is up to the challenge or if it needs refining. Let me know if this would interest you as it will impact my decision of whether or not I do so, and if so whether I would video it. Thanks for your viewership and input.

GEAR LIST & WEIGHT:
Osprey Talon 33 Backpack 30.5 oz. Excellent pack; careful not to over-tighten

(Not shown, but always used) Leki Khumbu SpeedLock Trekking Poles - Pair 20.1 oz. Powers me up the hills; reduces fatigue; provides stability

Space All-Weather Blanket 12.0 oz. 7 x 5 feet Adequate, but will carry a lighter tarp when it can be afforded

Osprey 3L Hydration Bladder (holds 100 fluid ounces) 9.0 oz. Handle convenient; foam panel provides some structure in frame-less packs

Panasonic Lumix Camera (DMC-TS4) 7.0 oz. Missing some of my favorite features from the TS2 model(easy access buttons and color menu); GPS is a real bonus; zoom buttons awkwardly placed and can be bumped while trying to shoot photos one-handed; good color reproduction; h2o proof is a BIG +;

(Not shown) - Marmot Trail Wind Hoody 5.0 oz. Carry loop came apart after 1 trip; some discoloration (not sure where from); fabric is delicate so be wary of flame and embers (tumble dry on low setting melted holes in hood and chest, possibly from hot zipper)

Blackjack 155 Neck Knife + (scales, sheath, chain necklace) 4.12 oz. Knife Only = 2.96 oz.; light; convex blade is quite sharp

REI Self-inflating Seat Pad 4.0 oz. protects from rocky and uncomfortable peaks

SOL Bivy (with bag) 3.81 oz. In case of Emergency

Personal First-Aid Kit 3.62 oz. Used to carry a lot more, but found this extremely slimmed down version to be more than adequate; can be purchased and then added upon, but it is better to build it yourself for customization

24 oz. Cycling Water Bottle 3.06 oz. used for electrolyte replacement drink; can be used to purify water with proper water treatment.

Outdoor Research Hat (with neck shade) 2.8 oz. Works well

Emergency Poncho 2.8 oz.

(Not Shown) - Nite Ize Figure 9 Tent Line Kit & Bag 2.40 oz. Cordage for many purposes; can be used in shelter creation; reflective is a bonus; lighter than 550 cord which is often overkill and unnecessary

Manzella insulated fleece gloves (Warmer) 2.1 oz.

Benchmade 530S (w/thumb loop lanyard) 1.95 oz. Lightweight folding knife; partially serrated blade; compact; not to be abused as it is thin stock

The Friendly Swede Adjustable Premium Paracord Bracelet with Fire Starter and Sharp Eye Knife. 1.85 oz.

GoFit Finger-less workout gloves 1.8 oz. Protection for my hands; shock absorption for when using trekking poles

Joby mini tri-pod 1.66 oz. for pics when no one is around to take them for you

Fenix E11 Flashlight 1.65 oz. $25; 32/105 lumen modes; IPX-8 waterproof to 6.5 feet; 1 AA Battery; Compact; Carried in pocket; Attach to fitted cap to use as a mini lamp

Smartwool beanie 1.65 oz. warm and cozy

The Friendly Swede (TM) Carabiner "Grenade" Survival Kit 1.62 oz.

Black Diamond Headlamp (with pouch and +1 battery) 1.57 oz. 10 lumens; lightweight; more than adequate for most evening endeavors

Buff tube bandana 1.15 oz. multipurpose (use as scarf; bandanna; protect face from wind, etc)

Ziploc Bag with TP & Plastic Grocery Bag .90 oz. variable use

Mini-fire kit 0.89 oz. Always carry, just in case (Contains: ○ Altoids small tin; ○ Petroleum infused cotton; ○ 5 strike anywhere matches; ○ Striking material; ○ Mini magnesium flint stick)

Spudz Lens Cloth .29 oz.

(Not Shown) - Cord whistle 0.22 oz. In case of emergency; louder than whistle embedded in sternum strap

Base Weight (NO FOOD OR WATER) 129.51 oz. 8.09 lbs.

124.0 oz. H2O 253.51 oz. 15.84 lbs.

16 oz. (food) 269.51 oz. 16.84 lbs.

Total Weight 16.84 lbs.
