Song #16 of my You Pick, I Play cover song request series. This one was the toughest one yet: “Sweet Youth” from Steve Soto, requested by Michael B.
I adore this beautiful tune and was honored to have been asked to sing it at Steve’s memorial at his and his family’s church in Orange County in 2018. Admittedly, I barely got through it then and the same goes for playing it today. It took me 8 tries before I was able to suppress the emotions and finish it.
On a slightly lighter note (and for you gear nerds out there), I pulled out one of my Fender Paramount acoustics to do this one. The Paramount had become both Steve and I’s favorite acoustic guitars (special thanks to @mschulz83 after he hooked us up for a big Rancid-headlined New Years Eve show in 2015 that we both played). We even started jokingly referring to ourselves as the ‘Paramount Brothers’ during the tours we did together 🥲❤️
