Welcome to today's pranayama breathing exercise. Get ready to start connecting with your breath. Today, we'll be practicing the Straw Breath technique, which gives you a boost of energy and brings more presence to your body.
1. Find a comfortable seated position with your spine tall and shoulders relaxed. You can close your eyes.
2. Imagine you have a straw between your lips, and suck air through the straw as you inhale.
3. Exhale through the nose
4. Continue this cycle of inhaling through the mouth and exhaling through the nose for 30-40 seconds.
5. Then, take one final deep breath in through the mouth, hold the breath, gently contract your lower abdomen and pelvic floor (mulabundh) briefly, then exhale fully through the nose and sit quietly and feel the body.
you can repeat this exercise 1-2 times but as it's quite activating, don't go beyond 1-2 mins of breathing in this way. And make sure you are seated in a relaxed space (not driving a car or operating machinery). If you have any light-headedness or tingly sensations, slow the breath, and return to nasal breathing.
