Geeta Dutt was born on 23 November 1930 in Idilpur, Madaripur District, Bengal Presidency, British India. She was born to Debendranath Ghosh Roy Chowdhary and Amiya Devi. Her brother Kanu Roy was a Film actor.
She is married to actor Guru Dutt till his death in 1964. She had two sons named Tarun Dutt, Arun Dutt and a daughter named Nina Dutt.
