This is the installation of a 3 x 1 1/4 mechanical tee on fire sprinkler pipe. We needed to add two sprinkler heads under duct work at NIH Building 10, level 14, which is part of the E Wing project.
1 1/4 pipe can feed two heads. One inch pipe cannot, by code. The mechanical tee has a gasket that fits over the hole to seal it shut. Leaks can occur due to slices in the gasket. This is why one should use a file to get rid of any sharp edges or shavings.
