Pianists Xavi Torres and Harmen Fraanje meet in a rare and intimate piano duo performance from Amsterdam Magic, a project devoted to collaboration and musical dialogue.
Written especially for this collaboration, the music moves fluidly between composed form and improvisation. Torres’ lyrical piano playing provides a harmonic and rhythmic foundation, while Philippens’ violin voice adds a singing, narrative quality—sometimes fragile, sometimes searching—shaping a dialogue rich in nuance and emotional depth.
Amsterdam Magic is a series of original duo compositions by Xavi Torres, each dedicated to a musician who has played a meaningful role in his artistic journey within the Amsterdam jazz scene. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jared Sacks, the album captures the intimacy and dynamic range of these musical encounters.
