Instead, Shoqat appears.
Asieh begs for a little food for her children.
Shoqat humiliates her and says:

Asieh cleans Shoqat’s storage room.
She works silently, patiently.
When she sees a dirty shirt, Shoqat mocks her and tells her to take it.
She refuses.
She doesn’t want pity—only food for her children.
When the work is done, Asieh asks for bread.
Shoqat refuses…
and gives her crushed acorns instead.

Asieh returns to the cabin, lights a fire,
and turns the acorns into food.
