1. Reuss Bridge

It is not for nothing that the world-famous wooden bridge is Lucerne's most photographed excursion destination and is valued by visitors and locals alike. Together with the water tower, the bridge shapes the cityscape like no other attraction. The Chapel Bridge today connects the Lucerne Theater on the south bank of the Reuss with the St. Peter's Chapel on Rathausquai and leads past the water tower. No one would have wished for the destruction that shocked world public opinion.
On the night of August 18, 1993, a large part of the Chapel Bridge caught fire. Only the two bridgeheads and the water tower could be saved. The rest of the bridge was rebuilt in a record time of eight months, so that the "new" Chapel Bridge could be reopened on April 14, 1994. Never before has Central Switzerland experienced an event like this, which happened to the landmark of an entire country and touched so many people around the world. Ultimately, the Chapel Bridge - an incredible 650 years old - not only served as a pedestrian bridge in its beginnings, but also as part of the city fortifications. The bridgeheads were the chapel on the right bank and the now disappeared Freienhof on the left bank. Seen from the air, the Chapel Bridge and Spreuer Bridge seem to connect the city.
The defiant yet beautiful water tower was built in front of the Chapel Bridge around 1290-1300. With its octagonal shape and 4.4-5 meter long sides, the structure is unique. The tower has a circumference of 39 meters and a height of 34.5 meters. During its 700 years it served various purposes. As an observation post you could monitor the comings and goings of ships in the city bay. It was part of the seaside city fortifications next to the Hofbrücke and Kapellbrücke. From the 14th century onwards it was used as an archive several times. In 1919 the city archives were finally moved from the tower. It served as a cantonal treasury and a safe place for spoils of war. The tower was also used as a prison until the late 18th century. Prisoners had to sit on a gag and were lowered into the dungeon at the end of a rope, from which they only emerged after serving their sentence. Directly above the dungeon is the armory, which now contains an extensive weapons display courtesy of the Artillery Association.
3. Rathaussteg
It is an extremely decorative passage that leads to the magnificent town hall and the old town.
It is pedestrian-only and has finely wrought iron side walls, belying its relatively modern unveiling in 1961. It was a replacement for a much older transition.
