ATV - Midlands Montage package 1974

Описание: 1974 arrives, Independent Local Radio, in particular BRMB, looms in the prospect of competition (potentially stealing precious TV viewer base) so ATV decides to refresh their look and, most importantly, sound. Out goes the overtly medieval "Sir Lew Grade March" and in comes Johnny Pearson's fresh new "Midlands Montage" (first item), along with a mostly unused suite of jingles, beds, and replacements for the legendary 'Zoom 2' ident using the Montage as its base (not unlike that of Harlech Television's earliest days before the incredibly trippy waterfall was there to stay). It was not too long before or after ATV tried flirting around with Rain's Stephanie de Syke's "Life is a beautiful book" which the IBA didn't take so kindly to it, having lyrics and all. The general rule of thumb here is that ITV start-up sequences HAVE to be instrumental. So far, a slightly modified 3-minute-long Midlands Montage for the start-up and sign-on was the only thing that stuck till New Year's Eve at the tail end of 1981.
