In the dystopian future, being too handsome is a crime, reflecting a future where total equality is brutally enforced by the government. The plot follows Harrison Bergeron, who is imprisoned and heavily handicapped due to his extraordinary intelligence, athleticism, and handsomeness. In this society, attractive individuals are forced to wear masks to hide their beauty. Harrison escapes and disrupts a live TV broadcast, declaring himself Emperor and removing his handicaps, including his mask, briefly experiencing freedom with a ballerina he frees from her constraints. However, their rebellion is swiftly crushed by the Handicapper General, Diana Moon Glampers, who kills them on live TV, reestablishing the oppressive control and enforced equality of the society.
