Snowy Drone Practice at Carrog Station + Berwyn Station History | Llangollen Railway | Jan 8 2026
Today’s drone flight was a proper winter stress test in North Wales ❄️
I headed out to Carrog Station on the Llangollen Railway, where the snow had just settled and the whole Dee Valley was wrapped in thick fog. The ground was icy, the air was freezing, and visibility was seriously low — but it made for some stunning, moody footage.
This was one of those flights where you learn a lot quickly… especially when I noticed something I’ve never really had before: my drone propellers starting to pick up ice. That’s a big reminder that winter flying needs extra care and attention.
⚠️ Quick Safety Note:
If you ever see ice building on your propellers, land as soon as it’s safe. Even a small amount of ice can knock the props out of balance, reduce lift, and make the drone unstable — it’s not worth pushing your luck in freezing fog.
📸 Berwyn Station Photos Near the End
Near the end of the video, I’ve included a few photos of Berwyn Station, another beautiful stop on the Llangollen Railway. Berwyn is often known as “the station in the gorge” because it sits tucked tightly between the River Dee and the A5 road — one of the most scenic railway locations in the area.
If you enjoy drone flights, railways, winter scenery, and Welsh history, you’ll love this one.
