The Wild West of Lanzarote! 🇮🇨 Salt Flats, Piscinas Naturales & El Golfo

Описание: Visit the south west coast of Lanzarote with us! This Canary Island has so much to offer: in this vlog we take you to the piscinas naturales (natural swimming pools), Las Salinas de Janubio (the salt flats), el Charco Verde (the green lake) and the sleepy village of El Golfo.

We started our day with a drive from where we were staying, on the south coast of Lanzarote, along and over to the west coast. On the way we saw some sort of organised motorhome gathering with hundreds of vehicles parking up.

Our first location was the Piscinas Naturales (the natural swimming pools), where we were amazed by the fierce waves and the rugged coastline. We saw the natural pools and some people looking as though they may take a dip, but we sensibly stayed on slightly higher ground after some strong swells brought in huge volumes of water.

I had a minor accident, injuring my hand, and we decided to call it a day and return to the coast a few days later, when we carried on the journey! The next stop was Las Salinas de Janubio, the expansive salt flats formed after volcanic activity in the 18th century. Originally pumped in using wind power and now using electricity, the saltwater evaporates and leaves up to 15 tons of salt to be harvested from this area each year!

Next on our route was Charco Verde, a stunning green lake set against the backdrop of Timanfaya National Park and with the waves lapping at the black sand beach just a stones throw away. It's just a short walk from the nearby car park and well worth checking out.

For a sunset drink, we headed on over to the nearby village of El Golfo, where we settled in to watch the seagulls flying and the sky coming alive with reds and oranges. The seagulls waited patiently for a man to fillet a bucketfull of fish and then feasted in a frenzy when he left the heads and guts out on the rocks for them! With the sky darkening and our bellies rumbling, we decided to order paella del mar y las montañas - paella from the sea and the mountains (with seafood and meat). After we feasted, it was time to get back in the car and head back.
