Story and Setting

The game's narrative is set after the events of God of War: Ascension and before the first God of War, during the period when Kratos is tormented by the nightmares of killing his family and seeks absolution through service to the gods. 

Plot: The world is plunged into darkness and the gods are cast into a deep slumber by the Dream God, Morpheus, following the disappearance of the Sun God, Helios. Athena tasks Kratos with finding Helios and restoring the sun. Kratos' journey takes him through war-torn Attica, the Underworld, the Fields of Elysium, and Tartarus.

Main Conflict: In the Underworld, Kratos discovers the main antagonist is Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, who is working with the Titan Atlas to destroy the Pillar of the World, which would end all existence, including the souls of the dead.

Character Arc: The story provides insight into Kratos' tragic past, featuring a poignant reunion with his deceased daughter, Calliope. He is ultimately forced to choose between staying with her in the Fields of Elysium or sacrificing his personal peace to save the world, reinforcing his eternal suffering and commitment to the gods' will, for a time. 

Gameplay

Chains of Olympus successfully translates the core hack-and-slash gameplay of the console titles to a handheld format, featuring a fixed camera perspective, combo-based combat, and environmental puzzles. 

Combat: Kratos primarily uses the Blades of Chaos, a pair of chained blades, but also acquires secondary weapons like the Sun Shield (used for parrying and reflecting projectiles) and the Gauntlet of Zeus (a powerful close-quarters weapon).

Magic Abilities: The game features three magical attacks:

Efreet: A fiery spirit unleashed after defeating the Persian King.

Light of Dawn: Summons orbs of light to hurl at enemies.

Charon's Wrath: Acquired after the second battle with Charon, this power blasts green flames at foes.

Mechanics: It incorporates platforming elements, quick-time events for defeating larger enemies and bosses, and a system for collecting red orbs to upgrade weapons and magic.

Chains of Olympus was a technical and critical marvel for the PSP, widely praised as one of the best-looking and highest-rated games on the system.
