Kumasi is said to be derived from the tree Tutu sat under while negotiating the land. The city was the epicenter of the empire's national culture, housing both the Ashanti imperial palace and the Golden Stoll, the empire's power symbol. Because of its proximity to goldfields and a number of international trade routes, this city has prospered economically.
