Описание: MaximsNewsNetwork: 02 July 2010 - UNTV: United Nations, New York - Chair of the United Nations (UN) Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee, Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting of Austria, today gave an update on delisted individuals and entities following the Council's recent approval to delete five entries from the list; ten Taliban individuals and 35 Al-Qaeda individuals and affiliates have been removed from the United Nations sanctions list after a review of the 488 names on the list.

Thomas Mayr-Harting, the chair of the UN Security Council committee said that "as a result of the review of 488 names, 45 were delisted."

He added that those removed, following requests from UN Member States, include 10 individuals who had been associated with the Taliban as well as 14 individuals and 21 entities linked at some point to Al-Qaeda.

Mayr-Harting said that the delisting requests can be "made by any member of the United Nations." He added that if another member puts "a hold" on the request, "the procedure gets interrupted for a certain period of time."

Richard Barrett from the sanctions monitoring team said that "in Afghanistan where a lot of the names ate based, it was difficult to get really good information from the authorities there but they did spend some time trying to provide is with what we wanted."

Last week, five of the 10 Taliban removed from the list were named as Abdul Satar Paktin, Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad Awrang, a former Afghan ambassador to the UN, Abdul Salam Zaeef and two officials who are now deceased.

Individuals on the list are subject to asset freezes, a travel ban and an arms embargo.
