Rabindranath Tagore’s relevance today lies in the universal themes he explored, particularly regarding human rights and social justice. Our presentation of the dance drama “Pujarini” during Cultural Extravaganza-2K24 emphasized these themes, highlighting the tragic story of Srimati (Pujarini) who was killed for her devotion to Buddha. Her defiance against Ajatshatru’s orders symbolizes a powerful protest against the oppressive structures of Brahminical patriarchy. In the 21st century, the struggles faced by women remain starkly relevant, as many continue to experience domination and violence despite their capabilities and education. Our performance aimed to resonate with contemporary issues of gender inequality and violence against women, concluding with a collective voice against societal injustices. Through Tagore’s lens, we sought not only to honor his work but also to inspire reflection and action in our current social context. My sincere thanks to all the students, teachers and guardians of HMS, and the entire audience for actively joining our musical protest, which is much need of the hour. Absolutely, while we fulfill our
responsibilities, the pursuit of justice remains a fundamental aspiration for all. It’s crucial to advocate for change while maintaining our individual roles, ensuring that our collective efforts contribute to a brighter future and a more equitable society for everyone.
