Colombia's Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) Trek, 4-Day Hike with Baquianos - Better than Machu Picchu.

What's more, is we liked our Lost City experience more than visiting Machu Picchu (where we went twice).

The hiking is hard work but there are lots of water, fruit, and swimming breaks (swimming breaks probably depend on the guide). The accommodations and food were luxuries in our opinion (although we are used to unguided backpacking trips).

I did a lot of research upfront. Baquianos are the guys to hire. Magic tours, Expotur, and Wiwa Tours seemed like a less personal experience. Both with your guide and with the indigenous people, the Wiwa. They're all great, but if we did it again, we would for sure hire Baquianos.

We did the 4-day, 3-night trek out of Santa Marta, however, they all offer longer treks for the same price. Everyone in our group did fine and we saw young kids and people in their 60s on the trail. We went in early May and it was perfectly dry weather. The nights we not very cold and the bugs were bad. If your picky about your pillow, bring one. We hiked in FiveFingers. Hiking boots would have been too hot for our preference.
