This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. How can we better understand the strange and surprising life of our cells? Systems biologist Ron Milo shows us how numbers serve as an extra sense to unravel the mysteries of biology and give us a new type of intuition.
Ron Milo loves life and numbers, and has been passionately striving to marry these two over the past decade. As a fellow at Harvard medical school, Ron created the BioNumbers database. This resource is now used daily by the hundreds of researchers trying to get a better sense of the numbers ruling biology. An associate professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Ron uses insights from quantitative biology to rewire molecular circuits that can turn carbon in the air into sugars. Such circuits hold the promise to boost yields in agriculture and produce renewable fuels.
