This Fox Trot (A Rag Classic!) or "Desecration No.2" by Felix Arndt is a fun to play and humorous piece, in contrast to his serious look at the end of this video. The works featured are
"Miserere" (Act IV, No.12) from Il trovatore by Verdi
"Wedding March" (No.9) from A Midsummer Night's Dream, incidental music, Op.61, by Felix Mendelssohn
"Treulich geführt" (Wedding March, Act III) from Lohengrin by Wagner
"Chœur des soldats" (Soldiers' Chorus, Act IV) from Faust by Gounod
"Barcarolle" (Act IV) from Les contes d'Hoffmann by Offenbach
"Die, Göttin der Liebe, soll mein Lied ertönen" (Act II) from Tannhäuser by Wagner
"Triumphal March" (Act II) from Aïda by Verdi
"Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix" (Act II) from Samson et Dalila by Saint-Saëns
Duet: "Laisse-moi contempler" (Act III) from Faust by Gounod
"Couplets, Chanson du Toréador" (Toreador Song, Act II, No.14) from Carmen by Bizet
Quartet: "Bella figlia dell'amore" (Act III, No.18) from Rigoletto by Verdi
I only knew some of these works. So I might play some themes to fast or unusual. This composition as an improvistory touch to it. The note "as recorded on the victor record [...] by Mr. Arndt, Himself" supports this thought. Although the themes are quite disconnected it's just so much fun playing (probably best on a honky tonk for the right sound! ;) Composed around 1916, in the middle of the first World War.
