There are few modern monster more notorious, or more recognized, than Slenderman. Although some Internet lore claims this thin, long-limbed, faceless creature in a suit has lurked in the background of human history for hundreds of years, the reality is that he was created online in 2009.

Dr. Zarka explains the timeline of this Internet folklore sensation, examining how unlike so many other monster origins stories, we know exactly when and why this one was created.
