The release of water from Khadakwasla dam, usually scheduled for October 15, has been postponed by at least two weeks due to extended rainfall this monsoon. The new release is now expected around the end of October or early November.
According to irrigation department officials, all four dams under the Khadakwasla circle — Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet, and Khadakwasla — are at 100% storage. The delay comes as rural areas continue to receive rainfall, reducing the immediate need for irrigation water.
A final decision on the water release will be taken in the canal committee meeting chaired by Deputy CM after Diwali. The water will then be released to support winter crop sowing in Haveli, Daund, and Indapur for more than a month.
Despite the delay, Pune city will not face water cuts, as the PMC has adequate storage levels in all reservoirs, including Bhama Askhed, Pavana, and Andra dams, which are also full. With 21 of 25 dams in the Bhima basin at 100% storage, both urban and rural regions are well-secured for the coming months. 🌧️💦
