Mixing 50 Colors of Food Coloring Together to Dye Yarn! (AmeriColor Nifty Fifty Kit)

Описание: I took the plunge and purchased the Nifty Fifty Food Coloring Kit from Americolor. What else should I do but mix all of them together and then try dyeing some yarn? Let's dip dye both KnitPicks Stroll and KnitPicks Wool of the Andes and see what happens!

The goal was to put 5 drops of each color in. It might not be even. I definitely noticed sometimes where there were 6 drops as I was looking back. Also, some colors are more viscous than others, so they might be more representated as well.

[2:29] My mixing plan - 5 drops of each color
[4:30] Mixing the colors together (timelapse)
[6:59] Adding color #50 to the mix and the mixture. Lots of shaking up to do!

[10:02] Prepping the dye so we can dye some yarn with this mixture. 50 drops in 1/2 cup of water
[12:41] The yarns for today, presoaking in plain tap water for at least 20 min
[13:35] Setting up the dyebath - 8 cups of water + 1 T white vinegar
[13:58] Dip dyeing the Wool of the Andes Worsted yarn
[16:18] After 10 min in the pot, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar
[17:48] Prepping the dye and dyebath to dip dye the stroll yarn. 100 drops of the dye mixture in 1/2 cup of water. Fresh 8 cups of water + 1 T white vinegar for the dyebath
[19:09] Dip dyeing the stroll yarn.
[21:00] After 10 min, adding 2 T white vinegar even though the water already looked clear. Leave in an additional 5 min
[21:41] comparing both wet yarns
[24:12] Washing the yarns
[26:15] The finished dry yarn, conclusions, and a fun announcement!
