With the drive to improve efficiency and reduce cost in manufacturing, more and more manufacturers are upgrading to Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) to better regulate their 3-phase AC motors. A reliable VFD system can efficiently control the power and voltage it delivers to the motor, and at the same time, can substantially reduce energy use and costs.
However, careful specification of every component of the VFD system is required to realize this reliability and energy savings. This is especially true for the least valued yet, highly critical component in the system: the power cable that connects the motor to the VFD.
