Iran's First Hereditary Transfer: Mojtaba Khamenei Succeeds Father Ayatollah As Supreme Leader

Описание: Iran has announced Mojtaba Khamenei as its new supreme leader following the assassination of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in strikes by Israel and the United States. The 56-year-old is the first hereditary transfer in Iran's supreme leadership, a practice previously considered un-Islamic. Mojtaba, a hardline cleric with deep ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, lost his father, mother, wife, and daughter in the strikes. He has pledged to pursue Iran's nuclear ambitions and seeks revenge for his family's deaths. US President Donald Trump called the succession unacceptable, whilst Israel stated it would not allow any successor and identified any appointed leader as a target for elimination. China opposed military action against Mojtaba, calling it an internal Iranian matter. Iran's Assembly of Experts formally selected Mojtaba, with military and political leaders pledging allegiance to him as supreme leader for life.
