Most people have inadequate ankle/hip mobility and core stability to do so but that's not enough reason to avoid squatting. Instead, small modifications like this make this movement instantly better for the majority of people, except for those experiencing knee pain or have a history of knee pain.
Elevating your heels during squats can help most people perform the exercise more comfortably and effectively.
Here's why:
▶️ Improved Ankle Mobility: Elevating your heels can reduce the demand for ankle flexibility, which can be especially helpful if you have tight calves.
▶️ Deeper Squat: Elevated heels will often enable a deeper squat by shifting your center of gravity forward. As a result, you're able to push your hips back without falling forward at the bottom of the squat.
▶️ Reduced Stress on Lower Back: Elevating the heels reduces the forward lean of the torso during the squat, which reduces stress on the lower back.
