Experience a raw and powerful snapshot of the devotional enthusiasm of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples in the mid-1970s. This Sandhya arati kirtan was led by Dinanath das ACBSP in Mombasa in 1975.
In this recording, Dinanath Prabhu plays a traditional mrdanga tal progression—a beautiful rhythmic accompaniment performed for the pleasure of the Deities. The images of Dinanath featured in the video are from the historic *Krishna Balaram Mandir* opening in 1975. Toward the end of the video, you will see the beautiful forms of Gaura Nitai, Rukmini Dwarkadish, and Sita-Ram-Lakshman and Hanuman in the new Mombasa temple.
The History Behind the Recording
In March 1976, devotees attending the Mayapur-Vrindavan Festival were still staying at the **Fogla Ashram**, even though the Krishna Balaram Mandir had opened the previous year. It was a time of deep connection; brahmacaris would meet in each other’s rooms to share and copy the latest recordings from tape deck to tape deck. We were learning devotional arts.
It was during this festival that I connected with Rksaraj das, a renowned kirtan leader. This was one of his personal recordings from Mombasa. The bhajans and kirtans performed by these three godbrothers during this era became influential to devotees all over the world.
Note: While the original recording was made on a handheld tape recorder, it was lovingly remastered in 2024 by Uttamasloka das ACBSP to preserve this transcendental sound vibration.
