This webinar is for sponsors who have welcomed newcomers through a humanitarian parole pathway and who are seeking to assist newcomers in identifying and applying for alternative legal status.
Welcome.US and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) review alternative legal status options for newcomers who were sponsored via Uniting for Ukraine or the Processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV). This session evaluates eligibility and next steps in applying for asylum, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and permanent residency through the Cuban Adjustment Act.
4:03 – About humanitarian parole
7:13 – What should I expect from the new administration? Will the people I sponsored be able to stay legally?
10:05 – If humanitarian parole ends, will newcomers lose their legal status?
11:49 – If humanitarian parole legal status goes away, will the people we are sponsoring be deported?
17:42 – How will people find out if they are losing their status?
20:17 – When should people with humanitarian parole status start exploring other legal status options?
23:33 – Where can sponsors and parolees get help?
27:52 – What other legal statuses are available?
31:17 – What is asylum and how do you apply? What are the benefits and risks of applying for asylum?
41:26 – What is Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and how do you apply? What are the benefits and risks of applying for TPS?
45:50 – What is the Cuban Adjustment Act (CAA)? What are the benefits and risks of applying for the CAA?
48:38 – Should people apply for all the legal statuses for which they are eligible?
