The A9 is the longest road entirely within Scotland, running for 279 miles (449km) from Edinburgh to the port of Scrabster near Thurso on the North Coast. It links to the cities of Stirling, Perth and Inverness and is the main route north from the Central Belt into the Highlands. Between Inverness and Dornoch, the A9 has been significantly improved by the construction of three bridges over sea inlets, bypassing significantly longer routes - the Kessock Bridge over the Beauly Firth, the Cromarty Bridge over the Cromarty Firth, and the Dornoch Firth Bridge - as well as a number of other bypasses for towns and villages along the way.
This video shows a northbound journey along the A9 from the junction with the B9169 near Culbokie on the Black Isle, to the roundabout with the A862 north-east of Dingwall, passing over the Cromarty Bridge.
