In Sep 2025, we took a bus from Ljubljana to Lake Bohinj. This is the same bus that brought us from Ljubljana to Lake Bled previously. Lake Bohinj is another 1 hour away from Lake Bled.
For Lake Bohinj, we had a choice of stopping at Ribcev Laz on the eastern side of the lake, or UKANC on the western end.
We chose Ribcev Laz which is where most tourists will stop, as it is home to the famous stone bridge and Church of St John, the Baptist. Note however that you should alight at the bus stop named “Bohinj lake” instead of “Ribcev Laz” (which is one stop earlier).
It was quite nice and relaxing to walk and take photos along the stone bridge with just a few tourists around, unlike the crowds at Lake Bled.
Our original plan was to take the panoramic cruise boat along the lake to UKANC and back. But we missed the boat’s departure by just a few seconds.
So, we had no choice but to do the 1-hour walk along the lake all the way to UKANC, which turned out to be quite pleasant.
In no time, we found ourselves reaching UKANC, where we noticed a large campsite (with tents and vehicles) by the lake. It is also near to a very nice beach for swimming.
This UKANC end of Lake Bohinj is even more tranquil than the Ribcev Laz side, with postcard mirror-like reflections in the lake. This area is also popular for the cable car and the waterfall, both of which we unfortunately didn’t have time to enjoy.
Soon, we saw the panoramic cruise boat approaching in the distance, and we quickly made our way to the jetty to catch the cruise back to Ribcev Laz. We could have taken the bus back to Ljubljana from Ukanc, but we wanted to do the cruise of Lake Bohinj. We paid 9 Euros each and it was worth it, although there was no commentary during the cruise.
