This video explains about the Kingdom Fungi in Tamil. Fungi mean “Mushroom” in Latin. Fungus is singular, Fungi is plural. Fungi are Eukaryotes with a true nucleus. Fungi have no chlorophyll like plant cell. Study of fungi is Mycology. It prefers to grow in acidic and moist environment.
Armillaria ostoyae- Honey fungus is the largest living organism. Fungi can be divided based on structure (unicellular- yeast, multicellular-molds), based on nutrition mode (saprophytes, parasites, symbionts) and reproductive method (Asexual and sexual). Budding, fission, spore formation and fragmentation are asexual methods. Thallus is body of the fungus. Hypahe are the fungal filaments, mycelium is a group of hyphae. Mycelium may be septate with uninucleus or multi-nucleus or aseptate.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is an example for yeast. Aspergillus, Rhizopus, Mucor are molds. Fungi cell structure and growth patterns were explained. Fungi causes diseases in a wide range of hosts and has a lot of economic importance too.
