Çankırı is the center of the province of the same name in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. The name of Çankırı was written as "Çankırı" or "Çengiri" by some Western travelers.
Located in the north of Central Anatolia, between Kızılırmak and Western Black Sea main basins, Çankırı neighbors Bolu in the west, Karabük in the northwest, Kastamonu in the north, Çorum in the east and Ankara and Kırıkkale in the south. It is 730 meters above sea level.
The population of Çankırı province is 192,428. 73.8% of this population live in cities (end of 2020). The area of the province is 7,542 km2. There are 26 people per km2 in the province.
According to TUIK data in 2020, there are 12 districts, 15 municipalities, 96 neighborhoods and 371 villages in these municipalities, together with the central district.
Historical Buildings; Çankırı Castle, Sultan Süleyman Mosque, Stone Masjid, Sakaeli Rock Tombs and Fairy Chimneys, Hüyük Underground City.
