Rebekka Karijord is a Norwegian-born, Swedish-based composer, musician, and producer whose work spans film, theatre, dance, and recorded music. With a career that bridges genres and disciplines, she is known for emotionally driven compositions, bold use of voice and orchestration, and a distinctive ability to fuse the experimental with the accessible.
Over the past two decades, Karijord has scored more than 40 films, theatrical works, and dance productions. Her recent screen credits include Margreth Olin’s Songs of Earth (recorded with the London Contemporary Orchestra at AIR Studios), Hulu’s I Am Greta, Amazon Studios’ All the Old Knives, A24’s My Mercury, HBO’s Pray, Obey, Kill, and Universal’s Explorer. Her screen work is distinguished by a deep, intuitive sense of dramaturgy and emotional storytelling—skills honed through a wide-ranging artistic background and a strong commitment to socially engaged narratives. Songs of Earth in
particular brought her international recognition, earning nominations from the prestigous Cinema Eye Honors and the International Documentary Association, and receiving both a Crystal Pine at the International Sound & Film Music Festival and the NaturVision Film Festival Award—testament to her ability to fuse sonic beauty with emotional resonance.
Current projects include the Apple Studios epic feature Tenzing, directed by Jen Peedom for See Saw Productions, Amanda Kernell’s arthouse drama The Curse: A Love Story, and Pernille Fischer Christensen’s Danish drama Unraveled. In parallel with her scoring career, Karijord has released six solo albums and cultivated rich collaborative projects, including the release Archives of Longing with Andrew Yee of the Attacca Quartet and the album Complete Mountain Almanac (Bella Union), co-created with visual artist Jessica Dessner and Bryce and Aaron Dessner of The National. Her seventh album, The Bell Tower (Bella Union, 2025), continues her exploration of the human voice. Built from hundreds of vocal samples in their full scale and featuring studio recordings with Grammy-winning ensemble Roomful of Teeth, the album pushes the boundaries between the organic and the synthetic, while retaining Karijord’s signature emotional depth and warmth.
Trained at Stockholm’s Royal Dramatic Institute, Karijord brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work, drawing on experience as an actor, playwright, studio technician, and performer. She composes for a wide range of musical constellations— from orchestras and vocal ensembles to minimal electroacoustic setups—and often chooses projects with clear humanistic or political resonance.
HARPA nominated 2026 for her score for Rörelser (Raptures) directed by Jon Blåhed.
Rebekka Karijord’s transparent soundtrack grips listeners instantly and then gently guides us through the powerful emotions and unfolding events portrayed. With her sensitivity in handling tone, she observes suggestive and chaotic storytelling without taking sides. Her instrumentation is well chosen, tastefully reflecting the film’s time and setting through both folk and ecclesiastical themes, where Rebekka Karijord approaches the drama with a genuine and highly skilled artistic eye of the highest calibre.
