This video is a dance tutorial for a choreography (not a technique class) to the song “Baraye”, composed and sung by Shervin Hajipour , presented by Iranian Dance Academy instructor Shahrzad Khorsandi.

Iranian Dance Academy is sharing this video (and its counterpart) with the intention of showing solidarity with the protesters in Iran, hoping to help amplify their voices. We encourage you to learn more about what’s happening. We hope that together we can help to protect human rights all over the world.

Music Background: This song has become an anthem for the human rights (and specifically women’s rights) revolution that started in Iran in September 2022. This revolution is led by young women and the young men who stand by them. The Iranian government has reacted by unleashing violence on unarmed protesters, beating and shooting them to death, and arresting and torturing thousands).

This tutorial will provide an opportunity for you to use dance to raise awareness about this movement. We hope that you will share your dance with others and join us in supporting the people in Iran in their fight for human rights.

Share info on social media to spread the word
Use your dance as your voice of protest
Sign petitions (i.e. www.change.org, www.amnesty.org, https://freeiranianjournalists.org
Join the protests, whether or not you are Iranian (it’s important to show that we ALL support human rights and women’s rights for everyone.
Talk to your representative and urge them to hold the government of Iran responsible for their violation of human rights.
Urge the United Nations to take action against the Iranian regime and support the protestors.
