Maurice Ravel’s Le jardin féerique (“The Fairy Garden”) is the radiant final movement of his Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose Suite), composed between 1908–1910. Originally written as a piano duet for children of close friends, Ravel later orchestrated it in 1911, giving the music its shimmering, impressionistic colors that have enchanted audiences for over a century.
In this special transcription for cello and piano, cellist John-Henry Crawford brings a new depth of lyricism and warmth to Ravel’s fairy-tale masterpiece. The cello’s rich, singing voice transforms the delicate lines into something at once intimate and expansive, drawing listeners into the magical garden that slowly blossoms into one of Ravel’s most breathtaking climaxes.
