Currently, we’re in a sermon series on the biblical book of Romans. But for the sake of those of us with Attention Deficit Disorder, I’m periodically throwing in a one-of-a-kind sermon not from Romans. Clearly, as the title suggests, this is one of those weeks. A prime clue is that neither St. Patrick nor the KKK had yet appeared on the scene during the apostle Paul’s lifetime. So neither are mentioned in the book of Romans. But since March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, that seems a good launch pad for a sermon only a few days earlier. And, believe it or not, there’s actually a connection—however remote, I admit—between St. Patrick and the KKK. It’s a connection worth pursuing.
In our worship service this Saturday, March 14, at 11:30 am, at Graceworx Community Church (9913 Bear Lake Road, Apopka, FL 32703), we’ll contrast the characteristics of St. Patrick with the characteristics of the KKK and see what lessons we might learn. It will be a different kind of sermon—but one I think will be worthwhile. For our music, trumpeter James Hall will provide our prelude and postlude and more. Zory Hall will inspire us with her vocal solos. And Joe Brownlow and Jeanie Boyd will lead and accompany, respectively, the congregation in singing a “Musical Call to Worship.”
In our Adult Bible Study, held at 10:00 am in the church boardroom, moderator Millie Preussner will host the fifth week of a six-week series titled “Jesus in Our Generation.” Covered already have been Technology, Religion, Money and Conflict. March 14 will be Vanity. And March 21 will be Diversity.
If you can’t be physically present for our 11:30 am worship service, you can go to Facebook ( / graceworxapopka ) or Youtube ( / @graceworxapopka ) and watch the livestream. Or watch it later as an archive on either site. You’re more than welcome at Graceworx in whatever way you choose to participate. Peace and blessings to all.—Pastor Jim Coffin.”
Announcements
MARCH 14 Fellowship Meal. Right after the worship service, we’ll have our quarterly Fellowship Meal in the Church Hall. The meal’s theme will be Mexican. If you can bring food in that category, it will be greatly appreciated. If you’ve been given an assignment, please bring whatever you were assigned. If you’re not into preparing Mexican food, bring something that will complement Mexican cuisine. And if you don’t have anything that will complement Mexican fare, just being whatever tickles your fancy. There’s little doubt but what it will tickle the fancy of others, as well! The main thing is to just come and join us for good food and good fellowship.
APRIL 4 Easter Service. At Graceworx we try to make our Easter service special, featuring a lot of quality performed music, good congregational singing, the reading of the Resurrection Story as recorded in the Bible, as well as a brief sermon about the significance of the resurrection in the broad picture of Christianity’s message. It’s a service you won’t want to miss. Invite your family and friends. It will be special.
APRIL 18 Communion and Mini Concert. Much-appreciated vocalist Charles Haugabrooks will be our musical guest and will be featured in a mini-concert in conjunction with our communion service on April 18 during our 11:30 am worship time. Charles’s music is always a blessing, as is our quarterly communion service. Mark your calendars.
MAY 9 Church Social. If you’re a fan of quality pizza, table games and just having a lot of fun, mark your calendars for our next church social. May 9 at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall.
