Описание: In the monsoon season, Goa’s beaches are closed for swimming. This is because it is the fish breeding season, and also because the sea is too dangerous for swimming. That’s why, most of Goa’s famous beach shacks stay closed from June to September. But not all of them. The older shacks on Benaulim beach, Rafael’s, Pedro’s and Johncy’s, which we are visiting today, stay open all through the monsoon season. These are also the old favourites where you will find many Goans, besides tourists, whatever the season. Today we’re visiting our favourite, Johncy’s, itself a landmark on Benaulim Beach

From Maria Hall, continue straight past Kadar Supermarket on the Benaulim Beach road. Drive till the end of this road. When you reach the main beach parking lot, you’ll see Pedro’s on the right, followed by Johncy’s

Johncy’s has been serving both Goans and tourists bang on Benaulim beach since 1987. Even in the off season, Johncy’s is quite busy. Goans like Johncy’s because it is one of the few beach shacks which serves authentic Goan food. We prefer to come here in the off season when it is less crowded. In the season, you can climb straight down from Johncy’s onto the sand. Benaulim beach is serene and peaceful in the monsoon. Our favourite time. The boats are getting their annual break while a few tourists are enjoying the beach in the rain

Today we’re trying the crispy chicken, calamari tossed in Goa sausage, spicy beef roast, pork ribs and sausage pulao

The crispy chicken was excellent. All five of us enjoyed it. The squid tossed in Goa sausage was also popular with everyone

Then came the spicy beef roast, quickly followed by the pork chops, which looked very good

The pork chops were superb. We enjoyed the beef roast, but it was not at all spicy

We really liked how they served two pieces of chepnim (water mango pickle) with the sausage pulao

The bill for only the food and soft drinks for 5 of us was 2088

Time to go home for a nice siesta.
