A simple conversion to upgrade my old/trusty DeWALT 18V portable power tools to lithium technology. At the time of this video, I bought this battery for $24. https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s.... The compartment in the XRP pack can take 120mm x 48mm x 40mm. New battery sizes come out all the time, so pick whichever has the largest capacity that fits.
The Li-Po battery I chose is a high-discharge one, rated at 40C. This is definitely not my preference, but at this time my choices are limited and the physical dimension + overall capacity were the priorities. I would had chosen a lower discharge rating if possible, since it will be more stable when holding a full charge. Lithium batteries don't like holding full charges for too long, especially the high-discharge ones. Also, you must get a 5S Li-Po pack to make the voltage equivalent. Many low-end chargers don't charge up to 5S, so please use the correct charger. I am not keen on unbalanced-charging when balanced-charging is available. Granted, unbalanced-charging is way easier to accomplish and I can possibly convert the original DeWALT charger base to connect to a Li-Po charger, but I rather take the extra step to charge via a balanced charger. DO NOT CHARGE THE LI-PO BATTERY WITH THE DEWALT CHARGER!!!
Lastly, please dispose the old Ni-Cad batteries properly.
